With the market getting global these days and the range of products being launched by a company widening, the entire process of production, management and sales of the products has become more complex. The market for a particular product launched by a company is no longer a limited geographical area. It has now spread over a global scale.

The lifecycle of the product goes like this: it is first manufactured at the manufacturing unit of the company, and then stored in the storehouse or the inventory; the user then places an order for the products that he wishes to purchase and finally the products are sold to the user. In olden days, this entire process was carried out manually. But as the range and quantity of products increased, the process became very tedious to handle manually. Also, manual labour is bound to produce some errors. Hence, as the software industry developed, this entire manual process was replaced by the use of software’s programs at each and every stage of the lifecycle. For e.g., inventory management software’s help in managing the inventory efficiently, sales order software helps in maintaining a proper and error free record of the order that has been placed by the user, sales manager software to control the entire process of sales of goods etc.     

The products produced by a company are definitely going to be used by some one or the other. The user places an order to the company for a list of products that it intends to buy. It is binding upon the company to deliver those products to the user as when required depending upon the availability of the product. Thus, this order statement needs to preserve carefully to keep a record of the goods that the user has ordered for. The sales order software helps with this process.

A lot of software developers have developed the sales order software. This software’s are custom made, catering to the needs of a particular client. The software uses various front end tools like Visual Basic, Java etc to create forms that are visible while entering data into the software. The data that is entered is then stored in suitable databases which are created using back end tools like SQL, Microsoft Access etc. Once the order, which has been placed by the user, is stored in the computer, the data can be retrieved anytime without much fuss. Thus, the sales order software  is much more efficient than the traditional way of writing down the entire thing on a piece of paper which is not that efficient as retrieving data from a book manually is much more tedious and time consuming than retrieving data with just a mouse click.

Moreover, in today’s competitive market, the last thing that a company wants is to send the wrong list of products to its customer. With the use of sales order software the company has a better knowledge that the product it is sending to its customer is the same that he has ordered for. This makes the functioning of the entire process relatively smoother.
